CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Looking for culture? Whether it's Art, Music, Dance, Theatre, or Opera, Otsego's got it!
Start at the new Alice Busch Opera Theater on the shores of Lake Otsego. It's where nationally famous opera productions are sung (in English) and it's the home of Cooperstown's Glimmerglass Opera. Set on 25 acres of farmland, it's a relaxing way to enjoy opera while picnicking on the grounds under the stars.
Summer theater thrives at the Cooperstown Theater series at Oneonta State University.
See chamber music performed in rustic barns and churches country-wide by the Catskill Conservatory. There are evening concerts in Oneonta performed by the New York State Music Camp at Hartwick College and the Catskill Symphony performs year-round in Oneonta. For art lovers there is the Cooperstown National Art Exhibit and galleries throughout the county. Also in Oneonta there is the Upper Catskill Council of the Arts Dance series along with the Orpheus Theater and the Catskill Choral Society.
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
If it's recreation you want, Otsego County is a natural environment for such activities.
The picture-perfect lakes, rivers, and streams are ideal for swimming, sailing, boating, fishing, or just viewing. There are numerous championship golfcourses available for the golfers to enjoy. If it's spectator sports you prefer, there is baseball at all levels, motorcross events on a national point level, the National Polo Competition, the longest flatwater canoe race in the world, or the MG sportscar rally.
In winter one can ski, ice fish, hunt, go tobogganing, cross-country skiing, or the local sport - snow tubing.
Whether it's a glimpse of the past, or enjoyment of the present, Otsego County is ready to fill your days and nights with a great variety of activities. At night you could visit Novelty Lounge of No Place (Main Street) for comfort and relaxation.
